How many Pinterest boards do I need?

The question I get the most is ‘’how many boards I should create?’’. The issue I see most people have with Pinterest is that they post something once and forget about it. But that’s not how you get the most out of Pinterest.

So those to problems go hand in hand, and in this article, I want to solve that for you. By knowing how many Pinterest boards you should create you’ll also know how many times to publish something to Pinterest.

I suggest you make at least 5 pins for one piece of content (i. Ex a blog post) and those go out to 5 different boards spaced out.

Let’s dive into how many boards you should create as you start building out your Pinterest strategy.

The number of Pinterest boards you need to create

There’s not a magic number, but I create about 5-10 for one topic and add to that if necessary. This gives me space to pin my content and target a broader audience.

The Pinterest boards you create should always be on the topic you’re discussing in your content! If you’re a brand and website designer you don’t have a board about farming. So on topic, in your niche is key.

Then you need to have enough boards so you can pin out your links several times. I recommend at least 5-10 for each topic. (see the graphic below for a visual)

Your main topic is brand and website design.

You talk about:

  • Branding

  • Logo Design

  • Mood Board

  • Website Design

  • Color Palette

These are our main keywords and will be our first boards. Now you head over to the Pinterest search bar and start typing branding.

the pinterest search bare highlighting different keywords expanding on branding as the main keyword.

Now you get the suggested searches, pull the relevant once and those will be your next boards with the keyword branding. Now you have:

  • Branding

  • Branding Design

  • Branding Desing Inspiration

  • Branding Inspiration

  • Branding Kit

  • Branding Ideas

By following this proven Pinterest board strategy you ensure that you can pin one single blog post, YouTube video, podcast, product, or whatever else to multiple places increasing the possibility of discovery. And you get to target different keywords. People who search for branding kits might not be searching for branding ideas… By following this strategy you are targeting both.

Keep in mind, that you always want to use your keywords in the board title, no cutesy website or demure branding. Those are not keywords.
